LATE ARRANGEMENTS IN
CRICKET INTERPORT "New L.B.W." Fears We May Be Sending Skeleton Side Up To Play Shanghai
BY NEW L.B.W." -
THE FACT THAT arrangements for the cricket Interport, with Sbang- kai have, after all, been left till rather late was brought bonic to local enthusiasts on Saturday when the Trial match which was to have taken place at the Indian Recreation Club was washed out.
It may be suggested that any criticism of the local authorities on this ground would be unnecessarly carping, në it was not till early last week that it was established as a certainty there would be an In- terport this year.
To that there is, I think, an obvious answer. It cur rulers of cricket were as keen as they might be, they could have arranged at least two trials before the definite invitation came from Shanghai, Hot though it might have been, I feel confident, that support would not have been wanting.

In which case the prospect does look pretty dismal.
The good old slogan "It's the game that counts; note the re- suit" is one to which I heartily, subscribe. For all that, when we receive an invitation to send an eleven to play another port, it is expected that we choose d team that is more or less re- presentative of full strength. The thing does not make sense to me. I agree, with Jue respect to the two players whose names have been men- tioned in connection with the léädëfship of the side, that there are probably others at present in the game who would" make better skippers, but, so long as it is the Cricket Club who are invited to choose a team, so long do I fall to see where there can be any com- plaint against their selecting whom they like as skipper.
