Chile's "Finance Minister, Senor Garces" Gana, has pro- posed that cigarettes shall be sold in smaller packets and shall be more heavily taxed to finance higher salaries for judicial officials.

The bill providing for these..sa- lary rises is now before the jus tice Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and Senor Gana is faced with prospect of finding seven million pesos (£58.000) to pay them.
