From Our Own Correspondent),
Canton, July 31.
The alarm created by the report On Friday that a Japanese landing party was sent to Lushui Cape in the sputhern point of 'Hai-. nan Island has turned out to be grossly exaggerated as only about seventy bluejackets took part in the landing. It was revealed here last night.
The Japanese sailors went in pinnaces to the shore in the hope of securing fresh water and provisions, but a volley of machine gun bullets from the shore sent the ratings back to their two destroyers.

JAPANESE LEADERS
ARE WORRIED
By Discussions On The War In Commons
Tokyo, July 30.
Great indignation has been caused here by this week's discus- aidus on the Sino-Japanese War in the British House of Commons.
This indignation is voiced by the Spokesman of the Japanese Foreign Office. who declared that the whole Common's debates have manifested the desire to intimidate and humillate the Japanese.
The Spokesman sald the Japanese people took note with much displeasure of the fact that some of the orators in Commons even demanded the abrogation of the Anglo-Japanese Commercial Treaty of 1911, and the exclusion of all Japanese goods from the markets of the British Empire.
a.
It will be recalled that similar attack on a hospital ship was reported by the Japanese dur- ing the battle for Shanghai when Chinese planes were alleged to have dropped a number of bombs on the Japanese hospital ship near Woosung.(Transocean).

GREAT SUCCESS FOR

Rebels' Offensive Brought
To A Standstill
Paris. July 31.
French war correspondents with the Spanish Republican arndes unanimously describe the result of the battle of Gandesa as one of the greatest successes achieved by Republicans during the whole war, Success, or failure, depended on whether the Nationalist air force would be able a few hours after the first Republican attack, to des- troy the pontoon bridges, thrown over, the Ebro by the Republicans.
Right from the outset the main occupation of the Republican high command was to assure the security of the pontoons essential for the transport of heary material and in this the Republicans were successful.
