ONE MATCH EACH IN THE EUROPEAN ZONE FINAL Germany And Yugoslavia In The Davis Cup

!

Berlin, July 30.

Germany and Yugoslavia broke even on the first day in the European zone final of the Davis Cup, each country winning one of the two singles played here yesterday afternoo

In the first match the Yugoslavian number one man, Funcsé, defeated the German player Henkel in thron nets:6-1, 7-5, 6-3. The first set was won fairly easily by the Yugoslavian whose powerful drives have been proved too much for the German who apparently was not in his best form.

"

Henkel endeavoured to reduce the pace by countering Puncec's hurricane drives with well-placed chops and by these methods secur- ed a five to one lead in the second set. This time, however, the Yugoslavian had found an effective reply to Henkel's chops. He final ly won the, sot as 7-5, Henkel put up'a rallant resistance in the third set but the furoslavlan was clearly the better may and won the one point for Yugoslavia.
