PEIPING FEARS BOLD GUERILLA ATTACK

Reported Massing Of Chinese In Western Hills

Peiping. July 29.

Rumour is rampant in this city that a boldly-conceived attack by Chinese troops ou Tientsin and Pelping is about to take place.

One report states that 100,000 Chinese soldiers, armed with tanks and artillery, are assembled in the hills to the west of Pelping.

The Japanese military authori- tles and the civil administration have taken great precautions. and the gates of Peiping are closed every day at 5 p.m. and are not opened till eight in the morning.

Guerilla Activities Increasing

Shanghai, July 29. -Chinese ruerilla activities which have been rampant in Pootung and along the Shanghai-Hangchew ar-Railway ate now extended to Soo-

chow,

on the Shanghai-Nanklag Railway, where a tense situation has been created.

Japanese troops are seen in both cities in great numbers, and tillery units and tanks have been drawn up at several points.

The Irregulars are about three miles behind the railway, requiring the small Japanese garrison to take special precautions.

It is an undisputed fact that large numbers of Chinese guerilles are close to Pelping. On the an niversary of the outbreak of war these irregulars penetrated up to the gates of Peiping and put the power works out
