Sank Japanese Warship And

Shot Down Pursuit Plane

The thrilling experience in bombing Japanese warships in the Yangtse River at Anking on July 12 is recounted by a pilot. Border Incident

JAPAN CANNOT POSSIBLY BE ENGAGED ON DOUBLE FRONT

London, July 22.

When the Manchukuo frontier incident first became known little thought was given to it in view of the more serious situation in Cen- tral Europe but since Thursday the press and political circles have, be- run to regard the Shankufeng incident as more than a mere violation of the frontier. A few persons in authoritative positions belleve that the present diplomatic controversy will lead to a clash between Japan and Soviet Russia, but if is generally feared that a further increase of the tensiou already existing between the two countries will have a pronounced effect on the Sino-Japanese conflict.
