URGE MINIMUM WEDDING AT THE CATHEDRAL

FOOD CONSUMPTION

CANTON MEASURES

...

Canton, July 19. To minimise food consumption in wartime and to increase the pro duce of foodstuffs such as ride. petato, corn, barley and beans and to develop remote area for agricul ture, is included in the work of the Kwangtang War-time Foodstuff Self-supporting League in Canton.

Propaganda is afoot to minimise domestic food consumption'so as to reserve adequate foodstuffs as one of the means to consolidate na- tional defence and to avert econo- mic crisis.

The members of the Kwangtung Women's Union, the Kwangtung Women's Anti-Japanese Associa tion, the Women's Emancipation League, the Canton Women's Club, the Y.W.CA, and several other women organizations held a joint meeting yesterday, presided over by Mr. Wu Koon-ki.

Mr. Wong Lim-sang, member of the, Standing Committee, dwelt on the important problem of foodstuff in wartime.»

He emphasized that the work in the home kitchen in saving up foodstuff was just as important as soldiers bearing arms at the front. He requested the woman members to co-operate, with the government in storing up food so as to be in line with the decree passed by the Central Authorities for minimum food consumption. While the casualties list has not yet been completed, the death roll continues to mount as more bodies are being extricated under heaps of wreckage and de- bris which lay strewn along many of the streets in Hankow and i Wachang, and to a les extent in Hanyang:

the backhand. Henkel was vari- able, at times excellent. Mako also was variable, now bringing of brilliant winners, now - hanging back, being caught at his feet, or falling in return of service, The Germans did their best to starve Budge; he got so little to do that it was suggested he should put his sweater on to avoid getting cold. In the fourth set it was a mat- ter of holding the service up to six all. There was some light rain in the later stages. Then Henkel was "broken." the American pair led 7-8, and Mako won his service to love, the Germans being uncer. tain. and that was the end. Of all the services Budge's" was the aurest and easiest winner.
