for Shanghai Dollars. "The ex- planation offered by officials of the bank was that they were only able to pay out yen. minus the tank's commission.

An interesting talk was given at the press conference in Hankow recently by a traveller newly ar- rived from Tsingtao. The speaker KAVA а vivid account of the changed conditions in Shantung sirice the Japanese occupation which, to state it mildly reflect considerable discredit to the in vaders who, in spite of some months of occupation, hold very little territory beyond the railway areas and the highway Kinking Lin and Kaomi; even these being subjected to frequent raids by the guerillas.

Aeroplane' wreckage found on the Burmese coast, In May, 1037, has been positively identified as part of the late Sir Char- les Kingsford-Smith's machine. The Burmese authorities are continuing the search for the remainder.

Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith disappeared while on a record- breaking fight' from England to Australia im November, 1935.

The report of the Burmese civil aviation authorities, dis- closed that the Lockheed Air- craft Corporation, of Los An- geles, had identified markings an the Oleo cylinder of the -salvaged - undercarriage.

The marks were those on the Lock- heed Altair machine down by Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith,

The wreckage, which

to

found on the southern bank of Aye Island, consisted of ́an. aircraft wheel, attached portion of the undercarriage..

Examination of the shellfish and marine growths on the wreckage Indicated. that the remainder would probably be found at the bottom of the sea at a depth not exceeding 15 fathoms, close to where the salvaged material was found. Examination of the marine growths had been carried out by the zoological department of Rangoon University.
