Chinese troops defending the lower reaches of the Yangtse lo the vicinity of Tikang, 60 kilometres southwest of Wuhu, delivered a crushing blow to the invading forces early yesterday morning when they recaptured Fenghuangshan after a violent struggle.
Crowning two weeks' effort, the Chinese forcés killed more than 1.000 Japanese troops, wounded many hundreds more, and sètzed 200 riftes, five machine-guns and quantities of military supplies.
