Large Attendance At Sunday Meeting

The rifle shooting season has now drawn to a close, after nine months of great enjoyment, to members of the Hong Kong Rifle Association, of broken records, both as regards standard of Aring. and membership.

The outstanding event of the season must be the departure of Major D. H. Steers, O.B.E, R.E, former Honorary Secretary and foun- der of the Association. Its left behind a fully grown Association whose membership is the largest outside England. The clubhouse, which he personally designed, is second to none. Finances can only be described as extraordinary healthy.

He handed over, the duties of Honorary Becretary to Major G. P. Murray, who has maintained that high standard of efficiency and interest. He took over his duties Just before the Bisley Meeting, and praise is all the more due to him for the running of a very success- ful and most enjoyable meeting, which entailed many days' hard work, both during and before that week-end in April.

On December 30, last year, the Association entered an S.R. (a) and S.R. (b) team for the N.R.A. Över- seas Colonial Match. This was the first time that an S.R. (a) was entered by the Association. The team gained 5th place in the S.R. #al, and 9th place in the S.R. (b).

At the end of last year the Royal i Ulster Rifles and Welch Fusiliers two of the main supporters of the Association left the Station. This deficit was made good by the al- most wholesale joining-up of the 1st Bn. The Middlesex Regiment.. At the beginning of this year, the 1st Bn. Seaforth Highlanders left the Station, and so again numbers diminished. This once more was soon mended by another wholesale joining-up of the Royal Scots.

Over 150 members turned up and competed for the various com- petitions, and during the whole morning the weather, although hot, did not deter many members from making high scores, notably the score of 95, out of a possible 100, made by Surg. Lt. Mackie.

Owing to the large numbers, only two ranges were used, 200 and 500) yards, at which eleven rounds were
