The Japanese warships, which have been hovering along the Chungshan coast for many months, were taken completely, by surprise. One of the vessels was badly damaged through a direct hit.

Bucharest, May 11.

A shot was fired near Eing Carol while he was attending the Independence Day demonstration here yesterday.

Rumours of an attempt on the King's life, spread "consequently, but the official version of the incident is that a man in the "crowd accidentally shot himself.

It was later learned that the! King, who had just held a big military review, had dismounted from his horse and was preparing to enter a motor car when a shot was heard.
