Dangers In Air Raids Stressed By Home Secretary
London, May 11. In moving the second reading in the House of Commvas yesterday of the first measures dealing with Bre precautions which bad besn before Parliament for more than 40 years, and the first legislation to place on local authorities legal obligations to arrange for efficient fire services, the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, said the system of fire precautions in Britain had grown up in a very haphazard way, without any co-ordinated public effort. The Bill gave effect to many of the recommendations of the Riverdal Committee which had made a study of the questions.
