TOPPER

The Hal Roach-M-G-M. super- feature comedy, "Topper," opening to-day at the Majestic Theatre, streamlines spectacularly into the ultra-modern and futuristic realras

of entertainment.

Luxury and richness provide the background for the fast-moving action and hilarious humour of the new picture based on Thorne Smith's delightful novel of whimay, wit and satire.

Co-starring Constance Bennett

and

Cary Grant, with Roland Young as "Topper," and a supports

ing east which includes Billie Burke, Alan Mowbray and Eugene, Pallete in featured roles, it pro- vides Director Norman McLeod with outstanding players to enact the as- tounding and ribald adventures and the merry mirthquake of epi-

sodes.

ANOTHER GLASGOW "GANG SHOW"

:|

Inspired by success of their fast "Gang Show,” Scouts and· Rovers of the city of Glasgow are to stage another 'Glasgow "Gang Show" shortly.

The King's Theatre has been booked for a week in February and rehearsals have already begun, with the old hunt for first-class talent as strong as ever.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION "Our work of the preceding year, I am glad to say, has been steady and successful. Apart from ex- amination resulta our average at- tendance has reached the gratify- ing percentage of 98.08, a signi- ficant indication of our boys' re- gularity at work and devotion to their studies.

"To account for this high per

of attendance, however. centage we cannot overlook the precau- tions taken and medical assistance rendered by the Health Officers for Schools as well as the introduc- tion of physical Instruction into our curriculum at the beginning of 1937.

"In the sphere of sports we continued to make the best use of our small playground at school for the training of our Volley Ball players; and though unable to at- tain the same degree of success as in the past, our Senior Team could manage to win six out of the eleven matches they played in the Inter- school League.

But owing to the difficulty that only distant grounds were available to them for practising Football, our boys had to be contented with inter-class matches in this game. As to the younger ones in the primary Division they are en- couraged to play Pingpong during their leisure periods.

EXAMINATION SUCCESSES "In June the four boys to Class Higher Middle III entered for the School Certificate Examination conducted by the University, and three pased, one gaining bonours and one distinction, and another winning three distinctions chiefs in Mathematics.

"As these boys attended Class I of King's College for Physics and Mathematics for the purpose of sharing the benefit of the up-to- date laboratory there, a word of thanks is due to its headmaster

and staff concerned.

"All the ten boys in class Higher Middle II sat for the Class II Cert Acate Examination, held by the Education Office, and seven turned out successful in spite of the fact that we decided to send our boys

for this examination two months after the beginning of the school year, which involved some change in their text books.

HON. MR. T. N. CHAV

During these years of economic depression and international, trou-j ble, the finshcial help of these scholarships has been appreciated by their guardians as well as the scholarship winners; and I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the gentlemen of the Pan-Hok- Tuan Association.

"Last but not least I wish to thank - all prize-donors, for their generous gifts and all Ladies and gentlemen for their presence.”

The Headmaster then called on Dr. Tso to present the prizes.

GOOD HEALTH Dr. Tso congratulated the Head- master, the Staff and all the puplis on the high standara strained. He was particularly impressed with the general good health of the boys, as reflected in the attendance re- cords and their sports activities.

Dr. Tso emphasised the physical side of education, and expressed the hope that the Government would soon be able to provide more facilities for sport and recreation among the vernacular schools,
