European Tensions Reviewed

When the Jugoslav Prime Minis- ter, M. Stojadinovics, recently said: "In 'a time of international turmoil far-reaching reorganisa- tions of a state cannot be carried out. The man who threw the bomb is described as being dressed in Chinesa stule dark clothing and wearing a dark felt hat.

The motive for the outrage is believed to be due to anti-Japanese feeling alleging that the Wang Kee arm was supplying Japanese ships.

PROBLEM OF FALL IN POPULATION

Modern Housing As Remedy

Addressing A conference on

cently, Sir William Beveridge, the population problems at Oxford re-

economist, said there could be no doubt that the populations of all Western countries were going to fall sharply.

"You have to consider whether you want smaller. populations, for they will be smaller unless steps are taken by Governments, auch as the granting of large family allew.

**My own bias would be to have smaller populations, but I can see great disadvantages. Not only would there be a fall in fertility, but with it an ever-growing

urbanisation, not only in this coun- try, but throughout the Western world.

"In the United States half the population is living on 2 per cent. of the area of the country, and the same thing is happening in Britain. This is as bad for life as for the production of children.

It is, however, recognised, that the matter is not as easy as all that, for the modern patriot, Dr. Matschek, has a way of making himself heard, when he demands cultural independence, and that ali Government officials in the Creation parts of the Country should be Croates.
