HEAD-DRESSES-GLOVES AND ACCESSORIES

Evening head-dresses are, for the most part, fanciful"and light. They are a result of the fashion for height which is seen in the higher heels of evening shoes and the many evening gowns designed ke, femininë moulded columns to add an illusory inch or two. When they are pushed back from the forehead, they repeat in the evening the favourite military line of" the daytime hat.

by Victorian dowagers, but does so in terms of youth, and the sequins may repeat the colours of the gown.. Sequin bows are usually fixed to one side with a hair grip. GLOVES

With the general vogue for trimming and ornateness, evening gloves have become more decora- tive. One of the new evening gloves is in black suede' with a perfortrated design arranged in geometric patterns. This is in two lengths, mousquetaire" for fuil evening dress, and cocktail length about 8in-for wearing with short-skirted tracks which have

Miniature ostrich tips mounted on narrow velvet swathings are yet another form of head-dress. The height of the tips varies and they are usually dyed to match the gown, but contrasted colours are also worn, such as, turquoise tipo mounted on a swathing of black velvet, or beige tips on a deep rose velvet band. For these the invisible elastic is also used. Knots of ribbon, small posies of roses, or coloured garden!as are chosen by those who like to have something different. The jewelled hair clip. matching ear clips or bracelets, is the simplest and most distinguished ornament and also has the advantage of keeping an ornate hair dressing in position. Bridal head-dresses are not theatrical as they have been, and some of the most effective ones worn at recent weddings have followed the line of the Empire wreath. In these also height is aimed at, but not an exaggerated height. A striking head-dress that is simple and beautiful has a double row of pearls separated by

Fur For The Winter

The modified swagger coat and the snort square hip-length jacket will be the favourite silhouettes for early autunin, and as these two styles look their best in lustrous turs, Hudson seal will be much used, both in black and in bronze. Round The Shops

Although St. Andrew's Ball is being held to-night there must be some who have not quite finished their preparations for this all- important event and to them we can offer some very sound advice. Go to LANE, CRAWFORD'S LADIES' SALON for there they have the most select range of even- ing gowns, models. by "Josephine C," in brocades, crepe silk, figure silk and georgette. White appears to be the most popular colour."but" there are also others and there are sizes to At all figures.

While making her rounds yester- day the writer stopped in at RIVELLE'S and found them in the process of unpacking the latest shipment of the ever popular two- plece woollen dresses and sults. In browns and greys, these were the last word in style and it took a very definite efort to wrench "oneself away from the shop.

Their evening dresses, too, called for some quick mental calculations but alas! if one could only buy all the nice things these shops tempt us with every day! The evening gowns were in black heavy satin and silk, and velvet combined with crepe silk, and all so nier:

Astrakhan is seldom used for an entire coat, but generally ná trim-' ming. Even when most lavishly used, it is allied to a fabric. A redingote with back fullness is made of horizontal bands of black cloth and astrakhan, of graduat- ing width from shoulder to hem. Another has flared bands, used vertically, of fabric and rur-Day- time and cocktail suits of heavy black woollen or silk crepe have narrow bands of astrakhan on the.... hem and the collar and cuffs. Others are trimmed with belts and buttons of the fur. Black angora dresses have arabesques and small intricate designs of astrakhan in- set into the fabric.

For evening wear, white ermine is the favourite, and full-length coats and sweeping capes show to advantage the art of the furrier. The upper part of the coat and cape yoke are draped, and soft width is given..to the shoulders by the manipulation of the skins in horizontal lines. Fullness is given to the coat sleeves by the use of swirled bands of fur, and ac- centuated by the straight lines of the coat itself. A fitted hip-length evening, coat of ermine in vertical lines has a cleverly worked edging

the same idea of relating dress and coat is used with both plain and check material. A three-quarter cuat of this fur is dyed navy-blue, tae, dress and lining being in, a navy-blue wool, with a fine over- check in wine-red. Kidskin, opos- sum, leopard, and shom lamb are other furs which look well for this type of coat and "ensemble.” Beaver also comes into this group, and there is a new three-quarter length belted cost with the shad- ing of fur used in horizontal lines,

For formal wear, the fitted red-... ingote is the most popular shape, belted, or with a narrow Inset belt of the fur itself. The sleeves are given importance with fullness be- low the shoulder or at the elbow, and the cleverly-cut collars are in self fur. The hem lines fare slightly, or have accentuated back fullness. Persian lamb, broadtail. and caracul are the favourite furs in black, brown, and grey Mink 18 still seen for full-length formal costs, and although these are classic in line, much detail is used in the working of the fum. · Silver fox collars are on some of the full- length black fur coats, and hip and knee-length fox canes are worked in horizontal lines. Red fox is new both for trimming and for: capes and boxy coats. Fox is used as trimming on wool day
