It is learnt from a reliable source that the Japanese military authorities are now exerting strong pressure on the Government with the object of inducing the Ja- panese Cabinet to send an official declaration of war to the Nanking Government

Whether the Cabinet will see its way to meet this demand is a matter which largely depends upon the attitude which the Brussels Conference will adopt in dealing with the Far Eastern question and also, of course, upon the strength of the "Japanese military thesis that an official declaration of war, with its consequent blockade of the China coast. will help to bring about a speedy end of the hos- titles.-- Transocean.
