"RADIO PARSON",

PASSES

London, Nov, 1.

One of Britain's most popular clergymen, Canon Hugh Sheppard, was found dead to-day in 23 drm - chair. Apparently he died from heart failure.

"Dick" Sheppard, as he was ni- fectionately known throughout. Enkland, was famous as the "radio parson" on account of his robust

sermons which he broadcast for many years from the pulpit of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

He was well yesterday. Appar- ently his death was due to heart failure.

Only last week Canon Sheppard was elected Lord Rector of Glas- gow University in a four-cornezed contest which included a Scottish Nationalat and Mr. Winston Chur- chill. He stood for the Peace

Pledge Union, and after the result was known, he said: "This de- finitely puts pacifism on the map."

The sending of additional Bri- tish troops to the Far East has been discussed over the week-end by political circles here, according to the Bunday papers, which add that the recent incidents within. the International Bettlement, cost- ing the lives of 8 British soldiers, have compelled the authorities to take a serious view of the situa tion. Official reports from Shang- hat are awaited before any final decision on this point will be made
