I have read with much interest the second Annual Report of the Directors of this Association and cannot help remarking how the cfforts of the Association seem to have been confined almost exclu- tively to foreign travellers arriving in the Colony.

It has been my privilege to be here on such occasions as the late King's Jubilee in 1935 and the Coronation in May of this year. there On both these occasions was a very large influx of Chinese visitors from Canton and farther inland.

Though I have no figures at my dispusa., I cannot he.p thinking that the invisible export repre~ sented by these tens of thousands of visitors must have had a con- siderable influence on the Colony's revenue and on the takings of her traders.

The scarcity of godown accom- modation in Hong Kong since the outbreak of hostilities

Their performance last night pleased everybody, the large gathering applauding with thusiasm. One of their turns, was the particularly pleasing, and took the form of a "Novelty Cocktall Turn," Many of the Hong Kong Hotel regulars were present including several residents who have returned from Welhaiwel and other parts.

Amongst a few who were ob vlously enjoying themselves were the Mitchels who had a large party which included Wing Com mander A. G. Bishop but one miss- ed seeing his charming wife who is in Singapore. Commander and Mrs. Cook had a large wedding an- niversary party which included Miss Langley and Capt. Duncan. Lleut. Stewart was with Capt, and Mrs. Singer. Lieut. and Mrs. Clark were dining a deux and looking very pleased with life. Mr, and Mrs. Johnson were in a party--also- Major and Mrs. Rockingham Gill. Others seen dancing together were Lieut.-Commdr. Mills and Rees. Lieut. Green and Miss Jonus, the Fatons and the Mansfields.

JUDGMENT FOR DEFENDANT

Judgment for the defendant with costs, and in the counter-claim Judgment for the claimant in the sum of $190 and costs was delivered by Mr. Justice, R. E. Lindsell, at the Summary Court, yesterday, in the case of Mr. H. A. Castro, of Messrs. W. R. Loxley and Co.,"against his former landlord, Mr. Wong Ping- suen, compradore of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Co.

Mr. M. A. da Silva appeared for the plaintiff, and the defendant was represented by the Hon. Mr. M. K. LO.

Arising out of 2 disastrous typhoon on the morning of August 17 last year the plaintiff claimed for $859, being damage done to clothing, blankets,. children's beds, school books, one baby grand plano and furniture. breakage of crockery, electrical Attings. re- moval expenses and surveyörs fees.

The plaintif alleged that he had rented No. 14, Essex Crescent, Kow- loon "Tong, upon the terms that the defendant should keep the roofs and outer walls of the pre- mises in a proper tenantable state of repair, which the defendant failed to do.

Defendant counter-claimed for $285, being three months rent, in- cluding one month's in lieu of notice.
