Although the market continued narrow, a little more interest in the investment section was notice- able towards the end of the week, although not sufficient to do more than hold the market at the some what lower level to which com- paratively small offerings

again brought it.

Enquiry in the speculative sec- tion is barely noticeable.

In the Sterling section, Banks were traded as high as $1580, sub- sequently receding to $1565, while Unions also were a little easier at $522.

Better Figures Reported

London, Oct. 14.

The substantial increase in ex- ports as compared with a year ago is the feature of the Overseas trade figures for September, and for the first three quarters of the year.

Exports last month were at the level of £10,000,000 or over 30 per cent higher in value than

two years before. United Kingdom exports were valued at £44,263,078 as against £36,960,737 in Septem- ber 1936.

Imports were valued at £87,809,- 166 as against £71,895,000 a year before and re-exports at £5.205,- 788 and £3,914,729 respectively in the two perlods. The growth of exports over the 9 months period, na compared with the year before, amounts to 265,559,825. Exports of coal in September amounted to 3,856,692 tons against 3,030,520 tons in September 1936, and for
