For Regulation Of Mediterranean Question

Londer. Oct. 2. The Important joint Anglo- French Note to Italy regarding Spain and the Mediterranean had not been handed in late last night. in spite of earlier official reports that it would be delivered in Rome some time on Friday. Well-informed quarters state that the Note will be hand- ed in some time at the beginning of next week.

It is believed that the delay was caused by the. Inability of Paris and London to come to agreemerit on the exact Anal wording of the Note.

France is said to have insisted that the threat be expressed that unless negotiations for withdrawal of foreign volunteers from Spain be satisfactorily completed. she intends to open the Pyrenees frontier, while Britain is said to be intent not only on avoiding a tone of sharpness but of reiterat- ing her willingness to recognise both Spanish parties as belligerents an soon as the volunteer, question la settled.

It is emphasised in London that solution of the volunteer question will be the main tople of the Note; which, however, will also include a statement on Franco- British desire for regulation of the Mediterranean question.

Political circles in London are of the opinion that definite light will have been shed upon the en- tire complex problem by the mid- dle of next week.-
