winner.

This sprint race for "A" Class Australian Ponies should be run in exceptionally fast time as all the Ayers are accepting There is very little difference in It (at the handi- cap weights) between Double Finesse and Lancashire Chips, which will be ridden by Messrs. Pih and Proulx respectively, and the luck of the draw for positions at the start may prove the ultimate factor in deciding the Home Brew (BL. Tad) is also quite handy over the distance but this bay is not quite up to the standard of the other two in, getting away quickly. Good as Centre Court, Katinka and Ranger may be, they will have à difficult task in trying to keep up with the others men- tioned. Able Amazon is a doubt ful starter, while I have not been able to get any informauon at all regarding Courting Eve. SUB-GRIFFINS AUTUMN PLATE This is the classic of the day and In the absence of Gordito, who I have been told is not starting. the picking of the winner is quite pro- blematical. Tempest (Deitz his Just as good a chance as any of the rest as this iron grey is a well known trier and the mile and a quarter should just about be suit- able. National "Anthem H. C. Pih▸ and Whalsey (Proulx are strongly fancled in certain quarters, which some Justification. as the former has come on quite a lot recently while Whaisey finishes the morning gallops quite strongly. Tabby Cat (Fung) appears the attest but whether this dun can be kept going the full distance is the problem. The dark one here is Mariposa and it a strong jockey 18 engaged to look after this starter he may do the trick. His running it the last Macao Meeting was particularly impressive and I felt that he had quite a lot in reserve at the finish. Shipmaster will be ridden by Mr. S. C. Llang but tho pony is not at his best at present and if he does get a place it wil be due mainly to the jockey's efforts.

VAUCLUSE HANDICAP This six furlongs event for "B" Class Australians should attract a fairly large field as practically all of the ponles entered have been undergoing strict, training. Vixen Tor (Davis) and Racing. Heart [Proulx) seem to be in their best form and I anticipate a very close rerdiet here. That old timer Bag

WIN

England Badly Outclassed

London. Sept 22. The meeting between the Scot- tish Football League and the Eng- lish Football League at Ibrox Park to-day resulted in a win for the Scots by a goal to nil, scored in the second half,

A crowd of 30,000 watched the match in mild dull weather.

Scotland won the toss, but did not have any advantage as there was no wind. Conditions were ideal for a fast game.

The Scots were more impressive than their English rivals

and Woodley was called upon to save brilliantly. Steele missed a good chance of scoring for England, but apart from this opportunity the English forwards were never pro- minent.

ISLAND BAY HANDICAP With the possible exception of Royal Consort, I think all the other classified entrants will ac- cept in this six furlong race for "C" Class China Ponics (1st section). Amberley was quite prominent to- wards the close of the Brst half year's racing and is good enough twin once again. Rob Roy (Deitzi should run close though the weight is a Mitle against this iron grey. King's Coronation (Proulx la look- ing very well and seems to have got rid of some of her bad habits. She is definitely dangerous and f her jockey gets one of his usual flying starts the combination will take some beating. Vira. Bistre and Kum Bhan should not be en- tirely neglected as with a good start and position at the gate any of the three may upset calculations. CLEAR WATER BAY STAKES There is nothing outstanding in this race over approximately five furlongs and I am prone to rely on that, old battler King's Parade, although Emergency Call and Phi- landerer are quite capable of run- ning away with the race. Populär Star is in at a dangerous weight while Ebony Idol. Yum Sing and Radium are not all bad over sprint distances. On paper. Lancashire Tich, winner of the Wong Nel Cheong Stakes (2nd section) at the Annual Meeting, should be quite close but I have no data whatso- ever regarding this dun and am not aware as to whether his owner- trainer has got this, recent pur- chase sound and fit again.

JUNK BAY HANDICAP This is the Novice Race of the day and as usual, a difficult one to fore- cast. There are several ponies with excellent chances and much will depend upon the Jockeys who will begiven the various mounta.

light Eve and Plain View appear to be the best. The last named is dangerous and "given a good Jockey should carry off this event." Laughing Girl ran an excellent race at Macao a fortnight ago but will take some holding over the first half mile. Laughing Cavalier is also worth watching but I never like to back a pony in a Novice Race that has too much lead to carry.

GOSFORD HANDICAP The newly formed "C" Class Aus- tralian ponies will meet over ap- proximately five furlongs and Violet Queen is about the best. first half but has "summered" well Solerins was not too ft during the and will furnish the main opposi- tion, to Violet Queen. The third place should go to Boronia Belle as this brown will have Mr. Proulx up and is quite handy over sprint distances. Twilight Star, Rooliy and Brutus are all doing well and have more than an outside chance. ISLAND BAY HANDICAP-2ND
