IDEAL CONDITIONS

The race was over I mile. 6 fur- longs and 132 yards and owing to the length the draw did not mal ter very much. There was, a ter ric crowd present, this being big increase, on the past few years. and the hot sun and cold wina made conditions Ideal.

Altogether 15 starters went to the gate and Soifo began to jump about in the paddock while Goya II was looking very well. The field paraded down in a line and they went down for about a furlong be- fore they turned back and canter- ed to the post,

Capt. Allison, the very expert- enced starter again officiated and all the horses were quiet to begin with, then Perifox got a lttle ex- cited and Solfo gave a bit of trou ble. Mid-day Sun, the Derby win- ner,

bebaved very quietly and..... Sultan Mahomed was very excited; but, as usual. Capt. Allison got the feld away to a very good start.

Chulmleigh. Sultan Mahomed. Mid-day Sun and Solfo ran in the order named while Snow Leopard was in the last position. After about two furlongs had been cover- ed Maranta went into the lead followed by Renardo, Fair Copy and Mid-day Sun and a little later Perifox ran so encouragingly as to

raise the

hopes of it backers: Turning. Into the home stretch, Renardo led the field followed by Mid-day Sun, Solfo' and Sulian Mahomed, which was trying to come up from the outside. Then Fair Copy put on a terrific burst of speed and all but won Chulmleigh (Gordon Richards) Anished with an even. finer burst, winning by three-quarters of a

Copy length. Fair

(Perryman) was second and the Derby winner. |Mid-day Sun, had to be content

with third place.

DISEASE IN MONKEYS AND MEN

That the study of the monkey could be applicable to the study of human anatomy and vice versa" was a contention made by Pro- fessor Adolph H. Schultz, the anthropology expert of John Hop- kina University: Baltimore, U.S.A.. in a special interview he had with a "Malaya Tribune" reporter."

Professor Schultz is a member of a party specially sent out by various institutions in the U.S.A.

"

JUST LIKE HÜMANS! "Monkeys' organs are like human belags," said Frofessor Schultz, and when you study them you study man's anatomy as well and vice versa.. "The only purpose is to advance much knowledge-just as others study insects and planta we study monkeys so that it helps us to find out how nature works."

་ ་,

Many expeditions had gone from the United States to Africa to study, the African monkey, the professor continued, and he was one of the very few sent out to Investigate the Malayan · and Slamese species.

Professor Schultz will be in Sin- Eapore for a short time to study the Malayari monkey. "I am very happy to have a week in Singapore to study the Malayan species at the Raffles Museum and hope to gather more details."
