LIFE OF JESUS

Little groups of men and women, their writings, some of which have who had known and heard and followed Jesus the Teacher and healer and preacher in Judea and Galllee, strengthened in their faith by his resurrection, sought to teach others the things which they knew and believed. First they taught their fellow hations, then Gentiles. until the teaching spread the whole of Asia Minor, and over into Greece and Italy. Thus, the first little churches of Jesus grew, and spread, obscure and humble com- panies of people whose only bond of union was their love for Jesus. FOLLOWERS OF "THE WAY" At first these men and women were known as followers" of "the "way." It

In the Orst place. the story of the life of Jesus was handed down directly by oral tradition from

those who had seen and known him. In the second place, besides letters written by Christians, es- pecially by Paul, there were un- doubtedly other written narratives concerning his life and teaching in th Aramate language, which is the language which spoke. Luke says that there were many of these narratives and that it is his ambition to collect and bring them into a clearer order.

the truth of this person the disciples rested their faith and staked their Ilves. They followed him not only as the Jewish Messiah. but as their Master and Saviour in life. as the Revealer of God the Father, and the Mediator of a new coven- ant between God and man.
