SITUATION IN JAPANESE
TSINGTAO
TAKES TURN FOR WORSE
Tsingtao, Aug. 19: The situa tion here has taken a turn for the worse. Negotiations between Chi- nese and Japanese authorities to- ward a settlement regarding the killing of the Japanese marine last week, have been suspended.
It is learned here that the American Consul here is attempt- ing to effect a peaceful under- standing between the Chinese and Japanese on the issue, but no satisfactory formula is believed to have been devised as yet.

The financial standing of Li Fuk-čhong 'was revealed yesterday before Mr. E. Himsworth, at the hearing, of the 'case in which two men were charged with murder of Mr. Chan Li-chan allas David Chan Sze, manager of the Sincere Company, on the night of May 13. at the Kowloon Magistracy..
The accused are 1 Fuk-chong. manager of the Sincere Perfumery and former manager of the Sin- cere Life Insce. Co., charged with being an accessory before the fact; Κο Wah-tak, Insurance broker and a former employee of the Sincere Company: Leung Wong, unemployed, and Au Hing. unemployed. all charged with murder.
Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., and Mr. John Whyatt, acting Assistant Attorney General, conducted the case for the Crown on the instruc- tons of Mr. P. Y. Woo, while Mr. Leo D'Almada," sen., appeared for Li Fuk-chong, Ko Wah-tak was re- presented by Mr. Peter H. Sin. Mr D. J. N. Anderson, instructed by Mr. F. 1. Zimmern, represented Au Hing.
