RETURNS
London, Aug. 18. In the first six months of this year, 11.3 per cent of imports into the United Kingdom .came from British countries compared with 41.5 per cent in the corresponding" period of 1936.
Percentages of the United King- British dom exports going to countries in the same periods were 47.5 and 18,6 respectively.
In trade with foreign countries in the first half of the year im- parts from South American coun- tries showed a marked increase.
The value of imports from Ar- gentine was £31,000,000 against £20,800,000 in the first half of 1936. and Imports from Chile in the two half years were valued at £5,100,000 and £2,900,000 respec- tively.
TRADE WITH SPAIN
ADVERSELY AFFECTED There was also a considerable in- crease in the United Kingdom ex- ports to the United States, which rose from £12,500,000 in the first half of 1936 to £16,500,000 in str months to June' last.
The effects of the Civil War in Spain on Anglo-Spanish trade are very obvious.
