The main shaft of the Gold Rock mines in Paracale is now down to 180 feet, according to Information given to, Tomas del Rio, President of the company by Developments,

Ins. who are in charge of the

Property.

Results on the claims have been satisfactory for the month. Several stringers were cut while the shaft. was being advanced during July. The engineers in charge have re- commended that a station be es- tablished on the 200-foot level and cross cuts will be driven from this point.

There were sellers after the EXCHEQUER RETURN opening at 1/2.15/16, buyera bid- : ding 1/3 resulting in business, at 1/2.31/32 for September delivery. The market closed with sellers at 1/215/16 August-October and 1/2.29/32 November, December. buyers at 1/3 for near and 1/2.- 31/32 for October-Dec.

U.S. DOLLARS Business was done during the early part of the morning at 31.- 3/18 for August. The market

closed with sellers at 31.1/16 Au- gust-September and probably 31 October, buyers at 31.3716 August September, 31.1/8 October.

RAILWAY WORKERS AWARDED WAGE INCREASE

London, Aug. 18. Following last week's announce- ment of the Railway Stał Nation- al Tribunars' decision, by which half a million railway workers were awarded wage increase, estimated to cost about, £2,000,000 per an- num, an award has been made on the claim of railway shopmen.

Basic rates are to be increased

by one shilling weekly and six pence weekly for different grades, and annual leave, with pay, will be given to all employees, in railway workshops after twelve months continuous service, commencing In

1938.

This is a second extension of the

Principle of holidays, with pay, to

be announced in recent weeks.
