London, July 26.

The Chairman's sub-committee of the International Non-Inter- vention Committee met at the Foreign Office this afternoon and was in session for nearly four hours. There was a very full discussion and it is understood the Committee unanimously agreed in order to facilitate progress in connection with the proposals drawn up by the British Government at the Committee's request to submit to the Governments and parties to the non-intervention agreement, the British White Faper setting out these proposals.

ARMAMENT PROBLEM

Lords Debate "

London, July, 28.

In view of the decision of Japan not to limit to 14-inch guns the armament of her navy, the British Admiralty is now considering whe ther it is wise, if it is intended to mit His Majesty's ships to 35,000 tons, to arm them with. 14-inch weapons or whether they should have 16-inch guna.

This was the statement made by Lord Stanhope; speaking ror. The Government, during the House or Lords debate on the London Naval Treaty Bill to-day. This measure was given second reading.

Lord Stanhope said that 14-inch guns might have as good range as 16-inch." "If you can get a good salvo with your - 14-inch guns be- fore the other fellow with the 18- Inch guns is able to hit you, the, odds are you will win the battle," he declared,

EDEN ON

QUESTIONAIRE

London, July 27.

In the House of Commons on Monday, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, stated that it was hoped. the Non-Intervention Committee would soon be able to deal with the answers to the Bi- tish Questionrire.

It was, Mr. Eden said, quite certain that the British Govern- ment stick to is proposals. The questionaire was merely sent out to accelerate the procedure and to obtain ccncrete results. It was, Mr. Eden said, probable that the give their answers not later than Governments would be asked to Thursday evening.- Transocean News Service.

BRITISH PROPOSALS

London, July 26.

The Non-Intervention Sub-Com- mittee has decided to send to the Governments represented in the Committee a White Paper contain- ing the British proposals, together with a covering note asking for each Government's views, in the briefest manner, on the nine points contained in the British plan.

The replies will be received not later than Thursday, and this will enable the Sub-Committee to meet on Friday.

The Italian and German Ambas- sadors have declared that their Governments are willing to accept the entire British proposals, pro- vided other Governments do the same-Reuter..
