Some Features Of

The Coach

The "Aurora," the new conditioned couch of the Kowloon- Canton Railway, was placed on the run to Canton with effect from Monday. The" coach seats 31 passengers, 14, of whom can be accommodated in the lounge por- tion in comfortable arm-chaira tö which domes of silence have been attached to enable them. to be readily moved by means of finger pressure to any position 'k passen- ger may desire. The coach is painted Aluminium colour to obtain the best radiation o solar heat. The floor, celling and wooden panelling are insulated with cork "two inches thick, and the very large windows are sealed.

AIR-CONDITIONING

The air-conditioning system was provided by The Trane Company U.S.A., and is of the Ice-Activated type. There are two large bunkers underneath the coach into which lee is loaded every morning by the Dairy Farm Company prior to the run. As the ice melts, 18, 15 pumped through the pre-cool- ing and main coils, and from thence it is returned to the bankers in the form of fine sprays." Air is forced under pressure round the outside of these colls where its temperature drops and its excess moisture content is extracted. "It then passes through a central duct placed in the roof of the conch. This duct contains a series of holes approximately located above the seats.
