At Taikoo Club

A very pleasant afternoon was spent by members of the staff of the Talkoo Dockyard yesterday when the Talkoo Chinese Athletic Association held their first annual sports, and the op- portunity was taken to present Mr. K. E. Greig, the retiring managen: of the Dockyard, with a scroll of honour on the eve of his departure for Home.

In the course of his speech MF. Lam Chung-hoo said that this was the first occasion on which the Chinese and European Start mixed together at a party and he expressed the hope that" this would be followed by many more such functions in the future.

CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH

Addressing the gathering the chairman said:-

DEATH SENTENCE

FOR TWO MEN

LIU LU YING GETS PRISON TERM

Hankow, June 6.

Charged with complicity in the assassination of General Yang Yung-tal, Governor of Hupeh, on October 25 last year, and plotting attenipts on the lives of General Chiang Kai-shek and other Chinese notables, Liu La-ying, suspended member of the Central Executive Committee and formerly chairman of the Can- tral Publicity Council in Nanking, was sentenced by the Wu- chang District Court to ten years' imprisonment and depriva- tion of civil rights for five years.

Cheng Hsi-chao and Kung Po- | two years' imprisonment, while Li chow, two other accused persons, Chun-chien was acquitted. were sentenced to death.

In addition to the sentences, Liu Lu-ying, Cheng Hsi-chao, Kung Fo-chow and Chao Ping-jung were ordered jointly to pay $30,000 as damages to the family of the late General Yang Yung-tal- Reuter.

A fourth accused. Chao Ping- jung. was sentenced to life im- prisonment.

New Hospital

For Children

The new Precious Biood Child- ren's Hospital, the first of its kind in the Colony. erected solely for the welfare and protection of poor. children in Kowloon and the New Territories, was officially opened by the Hon. Dr. AR Wellington. C.M.G. (Director. of Medical Ser- vices) on Saturday afternoon.

The opening of this new hospital: probably marked the last ofacial duty of the Hon. Dr. Wellington, who is leaving te Colony on retire- ment on Friday, June 11: aboard the R.M.B. Empress of Japan, ac- companied by Mrs. Wellington.

The new building, which is situated at Castle Peak Road, Kow- icon, is a three and a half storeys structure of cement concrete. and has been bullt at an estimated cost of $80,000, which was raised en- tirely through the efforts of the Hospital Committee and Sisters "headed by the Chairman M
