The other guldsmith shops in the immediate vicinity were closed and barred as a precaution against any unwelcome visits but from a cloth dealer's nearby it was learned that four men entered the shop and asked to be shown a selection of jewellery. Their request was grant ed but before they could do any thing else the foki sitting behind the grille at the back of the shop suspected that something Was amiss and promptly blew his police whistle.

SNATCH AND GRAB Rudely disturbed from "business," the Intruders 131- mëdiately adopted a "snatch and grab' attitude and between them managed to gather the ten gold bangles and $50 in money before leaving the premises. They ran towards Swatow Lane and though the hue and cry was taken up by the passers-by, the robbers made good their escape. The theory was advanced that the men might have had a sampan waiting for them off Wanchal and got away in this manner.
Mr. F. W. Shaftain. ADC1. Inspector A. V. Baker. Sub-Inspr. Darkin and Bergt. Allen
were
carrying out investigations up till
a late hour. No arrests had been made up to the time of going to Press.
