RECITAL

Clever Pupils Ai Helena May

A delightful pianoforte recital was given last evening by clever pupils of Miss Marina Barretto and Mr. Harry Ore, which attruct- ed a very large audience, the con. cert hall of the Helena May being quite tuli for the occasion.

Miss Mae Bunn (Associate of Toronto Conservatoire of Music and pupil of Mr. Ore) had the honour of opening the programme and played. Impromptu in “A” fat, and Vale No. 11 by Chopin, with great aplombe, and careful "tech- nique.

A most accomplished little girl followed her, in her pretty frock of primrose coloured silk she look- ed even less than her ten years, but played with surprising musical Insight. Her phrasing was excel- lent and she shewed surprising power for one so young. She is a pupi of Miss Barletio, and the plecea

she chose Were Danse Cupr.ce, and "Papillon," (both by Grieg, The former was splendid- ly given and in the latter she played with great delicacy...

Then came Lilian Eu (pupil of Mr. Ore), an accomplished pianist. who displayed great technical skill, and interpretative ability. "Her rendering of "Soaring" (Schumann)

Was

most charming, while the Mendelssohn Prelude in E. Minor was equally good her playing of the Intricate bass passages being excellent in every way.

W29

A charming little girl in blue with a big butterfly, bow in her dark hair came next. She Joe Paz Gaston. (another Ore bup and she sat down to the piano without a trace of nervous- nets and played the Funeral March of a Marionette (by Gounod) in a delightfully crisp and dainty man- ner, and with evident perception of the inner meaning of the music. Her crescendos were particularly good for one so young.

Another accomplished músician followed her. Rorabel Hau (pupil of Mr. Ore) who shewed a great sense of climax in her interpreta- tion of the Scherzo in "B" Fist (Chopin the cadenzas and indeed all the light, quick passages, being very well played, with noticeable dramatic perception.
