CORONATION
BROADCAST
The Coronation Service, which lasts for almost two-and-a-hal? hours, will be broadcast in ita entirety with the exception of brief passages in,, the service which do not lend themselves to broadcast- ing. Twenty-four microphones will be installed within the walls so that no detall of the proceedings may be missed by listeners. Be- fore the beginning of the Service a BBC observer will describe the various acts and ceremonies which form part of the Coronation.
During parts of the service devot- ed to these acts, when no sound.is audible, a speaker will read select- ed rubrics which will enable isteners to follow the proceedings. The BBC is installing, within the precincts of the Abbey. an elaborate control room, which will be linked to Broadcasting House. This control room will be the focal point both of the broadcasts from the route of the procession and of the transmissions from within the Abbey. Altogether more than fifty microphones will be employed, ull" of which will be controlled by dials on a central control panel.
'Special facilities are being pro- vided by the BBC for observers sent from foreign broadcasting or- ganisations. These 'observers will broadcast from special observation booths which will be linked through the facilities of the BBC with the International Telephone Exchange
of the British Post Omice. No de- cision has yet been reached as to whether it will be possible to tele- vise the proceedings.
