Pilot's Messages
From Aerodrome
Search is being " made for the missing altimeter of the Empire Capricornua, which flying-boat crashed in the mountains north of Lyons on March 24, with the loss of Ave lives.
Inquiry into statements made by the wireless operator, Mr. J. I Cooper, the sole survivor of the crash, has yielded the following results:
· 1. The Broù aerodrome station replied immediately to the arst request sent by the Capricornus at 2.11 p.m.-six minutes before the disaster occurred-for an in- dication of the route being fol- lowed.
2. The radio operator, doubt- leas surprised by the reply that he was flying above the Grosne, and apparently believing himself to be above the Saone, asked Bron to confirm the first indica- tion.
3. Bron would have replied once, but at this moment the flying-boat was wrecked in the mountains.
4 At no time did the Capri- cornus ask for her actual post- tion.
COMPLETE SECURITY
To sum up, all the facts estab- lished and the statements made lead to the explanation given on the first day. The Capricornus, caugh in the snowstorm, followed the valley of the Grosne, believing itself to be flying in complete Eccurity above the Saone.
