"Dally Press"]

Dear Sir,-At the annual meeting of the Company held in 1931 Mr. Taggart, who was in the Chair, stated that the Peak Hotel recon- struction scheme would not be begun until the Company was on the credit side with the Bank, which would probably be at the end of the following year. At the time this statement was made the loans and creditors amounted to 5 millions. The following year the overdraft was reduced to about 333 millions and it was then Indicated the "requirements of the Shanghai Properties and the probability of rebuliding one or both of these establishments.

ין,

In his broadcast "World Affairs" relayed from Daventry through Z.B.W. last night, Mr. H. V. Hodson spoke of the conference at Montreux dealing with capitu- lations in Egypt which had given foreigners special privileges in the matter of legal procedure. In 1875, he aald, many functions of the con- sular tribunals were transferred to special courts, called mixed tribun- als, with a mixed court of appeals. France was greatly interested in the question of total abolition of capitulations, Great Britain was now carrying out her part and as, far as the principles were concern- ed there were no difficulties but when one came to details there were difficulties and the only logical way was the absolute aboli- tion of all privileges."
