Hospitality For
Youth
The Coronation Accommodation Committee has received paticulars to let for varying periods during the Corona tion celebrations. The work of the committee is now mainly directed to inspecting the premises of which particulars have been received, and there is at present a good deal of modest accommodation that will be open to visitors at reasonable charges. The response to the com- mittee's appeal has been gratify Ing and shows, on the whole, widespread desire to help in an to urgent problem rather than make profit out of an obvious need. At this stage the supply on the registers of the committee natur- ally exceeds the demand, but that demand will inevitably increase as Coronation Day draws nearer. The purpose of the committee appeara to be well understood, but its status has apparently been confused in the public mind with that of a Government Department, for many correspondents continue to send the committee letters on which no postage has been paid.

The British mining industry is always anxious to proat by the experience of others, but it is be- lieved that safety conditions in this country are generally superior to those of other mining countries. The view was summed up by Mr. Laurence Holland, President of the Institute of Mining Engineers, in evidence before the Bafety in Coal- mines Commission recently:
Those who have morning dress will be allocated to stands occupied "I do not say that Great Britain has nothing to learn about safety The Post Office has been asked in coalmines." he remarked, "but that foreign countries to provide 150 stewards, and these T do say. will be representative of all grades.
