PASTEURIZED MILK
Dear Sir,
Our popular Governor has gone taking all our good wishes with him, but surely there his reign ends. Having left us to go to a bigger ana (presumably better; place where his salary is consider- ably more he can hardly leave in- structions behind as to how the O.AG. and next Governor to come shall govern us
May I point out that his Excel- lency, Mr. N. L. Smith governed the colony wisely and well before Sir Andrew ever appeared. He can be trusted to do so again without any help from outsiders.
Bir Andrew has farued Instruc- tions that we are to have pas- teurised milk, but I notice he walt- ed till he was not himself forced to drink it. If Hong Kong mothers wish to safeguard their children from contagion they can do so with the greatest ease by having all milk boiled as soon as it is de- livered, and if the mother is too lazy or too busy to do this herself It can be done in the kitchen.
All ject:

to pasteurized milk for three reasons. First because it makes the milk too rich and heavy for small bables and upsets their digestions.

SALARY CUT
With regard to Sir Andrew's suggestion that the salaries of Government Offcial should be fur- ther cut, this is a grand idea, since they are the one local body which cannot publicly protest or write to the newspapers to give reasons against such action. It is always the best way to rob the helpless instead of those likely to defend themselves... but the suggestion comes badly from one who has Just left Hong Kong and a self- afflicted salary est, for a Colony where his salary will be almost doubled.
