Building Queen Mary's Sister Ship

The agreement was issued re- cently under which the Treasury will make advances to the Cunard White Star, Ltd., aggregating £5,- 000,000 in connection with the completion of the Queen Mary and the building of her sister ship --No. 552.

Under the principal agreement referring to the Queen Mary, the advances totailed £3,850,000, leav ing £550,000 remaining to be ad- vanced.

The company has represented to the Treasury that £250,000 was spent on the Queen Mary in ex- cess of the sume advanced or to be advanced by the Treasury, and this amount is included in the new agreement. '

NECESSARY CONSENTS The agreement, which was' sign- ed on February 15 last, is condi tional upon the necessary consents being obtained before March 31 with regard to the agreement en- tered into an October 6, 1933, between the company and John Brown and Co., Ltd, for the construction and equipment of & new ship, be numbered:552, in

the

new Debenture stock of the com. pany limited to £2,500,000, and secured by a trust deed in favour of the Treasury solicitor.

The second balf of the advance is to be secured by an issue at par of Income Debenture stock of the company. class "C", limited in £2,500,000, nominal amount to and secured by a trust deed in favour of the Treasury solicitor.

The £250,000 to be advanced for the Queen Mary is to be secured by a third specific mort- gage on the Queen Mary.

It was in February, 1934. that the House of Commons agreed to the financial resolution which was the necessary preliminary for authority to the Treasury to ad- vance up to £9,500,000 towards the completion of the Queen Mary and for the possible construction of a second ship,
