P, and O. liner Strathmore, many KAISAR-I-HIND 11,500 of whose passengers have reached London by Marseilles, was able to improve on her "express" schedule for her latest voyage from Bom- bay to Marsellles, writes the "Man- chester Guardian."

She sailed on the afternoon of March 8 and was in Marseilles Harbour by eleven in the morning on Tuesday, March 16, carrying a full complement of passengers, a sign of the Coronation season: She left Marseilles twelve hours ahead of schedule under orders to make a" diversion south of the Balearics. to avoid the danger of mines. This, however, was not expected to put her behind the time, for she has a fine tum of speed well within her maximum capacity.

The Strathmore was the P. and O. Company's answer to the Lloyd Triestino's Victoria on the same India-Europe run, and has served.humour your every whim. that purpose nobly. The result is that the Italians are putting a new fast ship on the route, presumably subsidised to the hilt." This vessel has yet to prove her qualities, not against existing competition only: but against further ships projected by British owners. The wisdom of so much rivalry is open to doubt by all except the travellers whom It benefits, but it certainly enhan ces. the general stimulus of the

sea.
