ORIGIN A MESTERY The origin of the tree will always remain a mystery, but present-day scientific opinion agrees that it is probably a natural hybrid. How It got to Hong Kong, and what its parentage was, will probably never be known. As proof of its hybrid origin is the fact that, it will not set seed, and the many fine trees" of the species now so widely dis- persed in the Colony, at Canton, and elsewhere, have all been de- rived from cuttings.
