THE MERCANTILE. MARINE
Both in the presidential address recently of Sir Richard Holt to the Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom, and in the annual report of that body, at tention is drawn to the shrinkage of the United Kingdom's share of the world's tonnage.
`BY A. FROWEIN
The currency, question has once more come into prominence, owing to the devaluation of the French and Swiss francs and the Dutch gulden, and in consequenes also of the Three Power De- claration of September 26th, 1936. The problem of the stabilisa- tion of the currencies, however, cannot be regarded as a single problem, for it stands in the closest possible relationship to other "questions, all of which call for a common solution.
The International Chamber of Commerce, In its capacity as adviser on currency questions, has just announced it's considered opinion upon this important subject. As one result of an Inter-" national Meeting, which was held in London from March 5 to 7, 1935, the impulse for which was provided by the Carnegie Fund, and which was attended by many influential people from many nations, there was a close discussion as to how international trade might be stimulated, the currencies stabilised and the general satisfaction of the world be achieved.
This meeting led to a close co- operation between the Internation- al Chamber of Commerce and the Carnegie Fund authorities, which found its inception at the last Con. gress held by the Chamber in June, 1935,
The Chamber warmly welcomed the co-operation
