In response to a request from Dr. Kirk and his fellow members of Toc, H. the ante-room of the Chapel has been placed at their disposal and a fortnightly meeting held there. It was hoped that members of Toc. H might be able to give us occasional help at enter- tainments and other activities, and we are glad to report, that already such help has been forthcoming.

In company with other Sea- men's Institutes of which the Chaplain has iniormation, we have. found that of all the entertain- ments arranged, the dances have been the most popular. and for their success we are indebted to

CHURCH, SERVICES
usually Beafarers do not ashore in the morning so that we seldom have more than a small congregation of local people at the Sunday Morning Bervices.
In the evening, however, the launch brings men from ships in harbour to join in the simple ser- vices at St. Peter's Seamen's Church...
Unfortunately very few Mer- chant Ships remain in port on Bunday so that our numbers are seldom large except when some Special Service draws officers from the Coast and River steamers.
Such an occasion was on Janu- ary 12 when a Memorial Service was held for the Hong Kong men who lost their lives in the ill-fated 8.8. Paringa which foundered in Bass Strait off the Australian Coast about December 28, 1935,

The Aghting began when 2 crowd of workmen besleged the hall in which the Fascist Social Party were holding a meeting and severe street fighting followed in which shots were fixed...
The Minister of the Interior, M. Dormoy, who vainly tried to calm the crowds will give his colleagues a personal account of the dis- turbances.

Yokohama stayed in the Institute for a few days in Sep- tember, and earlier in the year, we were glad to meet the Rev. A. V. Wardle and his bride who were married in Singapore Cathedral a few weeks before their visit. The Rev. Basil Harthan of Shanghai spent the night of the typhoon in Junk Bay on board a vessel which was lucky to escape damage.

THANKS
To give a list of those who in various ways have helped us during the year would de tedious. Lut to all, especially the ladies who have been such energetic dancing partners, we tender our hearty thanks.
Many people have sent in par-

Those who know how much" sea- farers appreciate gifts of books and papers however old, will not hesitate, I am sure, to let us have as much "readLg" as they can épare."
