Dramatic End In Test Series

Melbourne, Mar. 3. Ten thousand spectators were given free admission to the cricket ground here to witness the closing stages of the final Test match be-" tween Australia and England.

The end came suddenly as Fleet- wood-Smith dismissed the two re- with successive maining batsmen deliveries to give Australia victory by an innings and 200 runs.

The

first ball, sent down by Fleetwood-Smith to Voce, caused the English batsman's dismissal. Voce hit the ball to mid-on, where Badcock caught it. Verity had scored one run the previous day.

Farnes the last English bats- man, then came in and from the very next ball by Fleetwood-Smith he was caught at deep mid-on by Nash. Verity was a hot out.

The English team had thus been all dismissed with no addition to the overnight score of 166 for 8, and Australia won the rubber, re- tairing the "Ashes" after having lost the first two matches.

When the match ended, thou- sands of spectators swarmed on to the pitch and cut out pieces souvenirs.

Players had the ball flung above their feet, but seldom were they given the well-timed, waist-high pass. The redeeming features of the game were the kicking of R. J. Barr, who, however, was peculiar- ly averse to widening the angle of his punt even when not pressed, and the sterling work of the Lon don Scottish forwards in spite of the absence of G. B. WHALING IN THE

SOVIET FAR EAST

Khabarovsk January, 17, (Tass Mall)-During the last four years, the Soviet whaling fleet in Far Eastern waters obtained, about 100,000 centners of whale oil, thousands of centners of whale meat, hundreds of centners of whale bone and cachalot teeth.

The whale catch is growing an- nually. In 1935-487 whales were caught, last year--501, while this year the Soviet whaling Cotilla has planned to catch 525 whales. (Tase Mail!,
