The biggest crowd seen there for many a year attended at Happy Valley for the last day of the races. The proceedings were enlivened by the pipers of the Seaforth High- landers, who played in front of the" enclosure during tifin and also between the races It was the "Children's Day" (the one occasion in the year when they are per- mitted there) and they took full advantage of this coveted privilege by turning up in fall, force, and crowding up to the rails all after- noon to see the fun.
!
One of the first I saw was young. Richard Henderson, looking so nice in his kilt, and thrilled at finding a Highland Regiment parading up and down to the music of the pipes. John and Stuart Valentine were watching the races from one of the boxes, but Bubbles Kerr pre- ferred to see them in the paddock. Albert Odell and a small cousin were placing bets, and getting tips Mrs. Odell from a big brother.
and looked was there of course awfully nice in attractive magple black and white. I saw "Pants" Hole with his mother, and Mr. Fleming with a "small piece," and Mrs. Platt with two cheery young- sters in tow, and there is no doubt there are many racing enthusiasts at the Peak School Judging by the number wearing that particular badge.
Mrs. Gilbert Harriman had brought her three youngsters, and Paul, in particular, was very in- terested, as he is 您 keen little rider. Mra Harriman looked sweet in a coat and skirt of dark silk- molree, with a blouse of frilled organdie.

fortunate initials on her bag (such large ones, too) and to all those whose joy in "getting the double" diminished considerably when they found too many others had got it also, and the dividend was the smallest-ever!
Mrs. Hilis is an inveterate race- goer, and seldom misses a meet- ing, and I thought she looked par- ticularly nice in a sult of gray with a darker hat. I got only a fleeting glimpse of Mrs. F. Q. Hall, but noticed Mrs. Cavanagh Main- waring in dainty "magpie” attire.
Moira Corrighan had a most pleasing dress of greeny-bius, and was with Mary Taylor who had a sweet little gray frock and fas- cinating belt of eut leather. Phyllis Churstan chose unusuni ducks-egg blue. Bergi Faire was pretty as a picture in $11 effective colour scheme of green and copper, with a green hat. Janet Langley had 2 simple but most becoming outfit, and Lols Fearon wore a severely cut black coat and skirt which suited her well.

Amongst the crowd of supporters I noticed Mrs. Franks who, alas, will be leaving us so soon. Mrs. Hopkins very smart in black with furs, Mrs. Robertson in grey with her mother Mrs. Lucy, Mrs. Shaw in navy blue, Mrs. Banger in green, and Mrs. Harriman in brown

The meeting that has just concluded was particularly note worthy in that the number of ladies both foreign and Chinese --who attended, far exceeded that for the 1936 ceeting. The Chinese lady is now one of the most ardent supporters of the toral Turf, and in this connection it is interesting to note that in the early days of racing it was not only considered "unladylike" for any Chinese lady to be seen at the Race Course, but any member of the fairer sex who dared venture to Happy Valleyne travellers: "Your Travel War- to follow the ponies" during drobe: What to Wear Everywhere" Race Week or at any Gymkhans, and "Sally's Little Green Book: A as the Extra Race Meetings were Shoppers Round-the-World Guide."
