"DAILY PRESS". PICKS EIGHT WINNERS!
THE RACING CARNIVAL HAD A VERY FITTING FINALE ON SATURDAY WHEN A RECORD CROWD ATTENDED AT HAPPY VALLEY TO ENJOY AN EXCELLENT DAY OF RACING, AND DESPITE THE THREATENING WEATHER THE CROWD INCREASED WITH EACH RACE WITH THE RESULT THE PRIZES FOR THE CASH SWEEPS ALL EXCEED THE $1,000 MARK, THAT FOR THE EIGHTH RACE BEING $3,103.80 AND IN THE NINTH RACE THE LUCKY HOLDER OF THE $2 TICKET, NO. 316, RECEIVED 55,737,201
Dividends were on the small side, the biggest return for the day being the $81.10 for a place by King's Bounty (Mr. W. H. S. Davis) in the last race of the day. In this connection. It is worthy of record that the "Daily Press racing correspondent rave eight winners in alne races, including the Daily Double, and any punter who started with a modest $5 would have been $37.40 to the good, had he followed our tips. In addition we also gave nine place ponies.
Mr. J. F. Macgregor's Strathroy set up a new 1 miles record, covering the distance in 210.3 to beat its own record of 2.10.4 set up, last December. Mr. L. G. Frost was champion Jockey for the meeting with 10 wins against Mr. F. Marshall's, nine, while Mrs. 1. Dunbar and Mr. Dynasty head the owners' list with five wins each.
The detailed result, together with cash sweep figures, were:

The same order was followed tili the Quarter Mile Post when Court- ing Eve bored right out and faded from the picture. Electron show- ed a fine burst of speed in the fast 250 yards but all it could do was to overtake Gypsy Love, the leader, Strathroy, having by this time worked up too big a lead to be In any danger of being overtaken. him at the post.
THE GRIFFINS SPRING HANDICAP
The favourite in this race, King's Coronation (Mr. F. Marshall), ful- filled expectations when it came first in The Griffins Spring Handi- cap, thus giving Mr. Marshall his ninth win of the meeting. Rob Roy (Mr-E, C. Leighton) was sec- ord and Centre Forward (Mr. D.
s. Li) third.
The race was on the slow side and while King's Coronation and Rob Roy were in with the leaders right from the time the barrier went up, Mr. Li did not give, nis pony his head till the Village Bend when it moved up from the seventh position to the third place..
From the time field entered the home stretch the race developed into a keen struggle for the lead and the favourite, by reason of a stronger last minute run, had the better of its race with Rob. Roy. Centre Forward, for a few seconds, looked as though it might over- take Rob Roy but the latter held out by just a length.
(Mr. V. V.
Atoric Star (Mr. Ip Kiu-ying), led the field, follow by Coronation Day, Gordito and Flying Arrow (Mr. S. C, Liang), with Helephant Pagan Love a couple of lengths behind.

い
At the Golf Club Coronation Day went to the lead but it was not till the half-mile post was reached that Gordito was given its head and she slowly but surely caught up on Coronation Day, and when the home stretch was reached she
showed a fine finishing burst to win by two lengths.
