AS WAS THE CASE LAST YEAR, THE HOT FAVOURITE FOR THIS CLASSIC, ROSEMARY. RACING UNDER MR. EU TONG SEN'S COLOURS, WAS UNPLACED. IT WILL BE REMEMBER- ED THAT AT THE 1938" MEETING, ROYAL SCOT, THE HARBRAD FAVOURITE, WAS BEATEN LIKE ROSEMARY, THE FAVOURITE AT THAT BY THE EVE CANDIDATE, HONEYMOON, EVE. MEETING DID NOT PLAGE AND IT SEEMS A COINCIDENCE THAT IT WAS ALSO MR. NEEDA WHO UPSET ALL EXPECTATIONS THEN,

The crowd that turned out yesterday was a typlent Derby Day crowd and although the weather was not all that could be desired, the keenness of the race fans never wavered. The Jockeys, of course, provided us with some excellent sport and Mr. I. C. Harris caused the biggest upset of the day when he rode Lianarmon to win in the second race of the day and pay his backers the very good return of $101.20.

Mr. Leo Frost was the most suc- cessful Jockey of the meeting, rid- ing two wins, two seconds and two thirds while Mr. Donald Black also scored two victories.

The "Daily Double" paid $72,50. and the full results, of the day's sport were as follows:-

THE TOWER STAKES The first race of the day, The Tower Stakes, saw the favourite, Gordito (Mr. V. C. Sung winning by a short head from Pagan Love 1Mr. F. Marshall) who was the same distance in front of Corona- tion Day (Mr. L. O. Frost). Bouldnor (Mr.. E. C. Leighton) re- fused to run after passing the post for the first time and returned to the paddock.

Bouldnor went into the lead when the barrier went up and kept up, amongst the winners till he decided to give up the race. Pagan Love, Coronation Day and Gordito were bunched together about the middle but when the Custodian's Shed was reached the favourite went to the lead and

Rose Evelyn wus third and Tiny Star (Mr. D. S. L) fourth.
