HON, MR. M. K. LO:—Every one of us will have “read, pondered over, and digested, the remarks made by Mr. Amps at the Rotary Club on Tuesday, the 9th instant.

We are living in one of the most critical times since civilization be- gan, and the future of civilization must depend, to a large extent, on what we all think and do to-day.

"I wish all your readers health and prosperity and, above all, I wish that 1937 will go down in his- tory us the year in which Human, ity has succeeeded in solving the problem of maintaining universal peace.

He said that the world depres- sion and its troubles of last year bad already gone, and he hoped that this year they will have suc- ceas and prosperity in everything they undertake.

He added that trade and busi- ness in the Colony will soon be revived, and believed that there would soon be a great change for the better. .H

Sir John Cargill Ordered A Long Rest

Although a leading figure in the

oil Industry Sir John Cargill, who has been 'ordered a long rest by his doctors, is little known here. writes a London correspondent.

The reason is that he only comes here for meetings of the com- panies with which he is connected Unlike Sir Henri Deterding, who has submitted to the cosmopolitan influences of the industry, Bir John remains a 100 per cent, Scot, Indeed, I have heard him des- cribed by a native of Glasgow as a 150 per cent.
