HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, MONDAY,

FINAL SPURT GIVES RIFLES A DRAW

Lee Wai Tong's Brilliant Hat-Trick

BY BEN MADIGAN.

After being outplayed for fally three quarters of the game during their encounter with South China "A" at Caroline Hill yes- terday. Rifles exerted pressure for a brief ten minutes and scored the equalising goals. The feature of a thrilling game was Lee Wal Tong's brilliant hat-trick. The inability of the Rifles' defence to cope with the bewildering pattern-weaving movements of the Chinese forward line, particularly in the first half, was very noticeable.

The first half was all South China. Fant King Cheong, Lee Wal Tong and Lai Shui Wing doing absolutely what they liked to 2 bewildered defence: How shots from Lee Wai Tonx and Lai Shu! Wingmimed their objective remains a mystery. Rifles were award- ed a penalty for an alleged foul on Moore but Pickering drove the resultant kick yards wide of Pau Ka Ping.

Lee Wai Tong burst through in real "Ted Drake" style and beat Connors hands down South China continued to dominate, Lee Wai Tong excelling himself with hrilliant dribbling and shooting.

Half Time

With the exception of the last ten minutes South China con- tinued to dominate. During one Rifles' breakaway's Miller equalised from a cross by Erwin. On resuming Connors brought of a marvellous save from Lee Wal Tong. Eventually the latter. rounded Pickering easily and left Connors helpless with a rasping drive. Almost immediately the Chinese star rounded four defen- ders, to choose a spot in the net, -completing the "hat trick"

La!

Shu! Wing also netted but the re- free disallowed the goal for an infringement The military side now exerted the pressure which carned them a somewhat for- tunate draw. During a scramble In the Chinese goal mouth Killen scored. Ferguson's dash and per- severance was rewarded when he neaded a spectacular goal past Pau Ka Ping; from a cross from the right Had South China been a ittle more fortunate in their shooting there would have been a vastly different tale to be told.

SAINTS PLAYERS

"ORDERED OFF"

The Senior League encounter between St. Joseph's and Eastern 1 Happy Valley on Saturday was marred by some incidents which apolled what promised to be a Arst-class match. A free-for-all ensued in which even the specta- bors joined in.

The events culminated in four p'ayers from the St. Joseph's team being sent off the field and when the Anal whistle was sound- od crowds invaded the field and attacked the players and officials.

As the result of their win over the Police Becreation Club at King's Park on Saturday, the Kowloon Cricket Club carried off the 1 Second Divizion Cricket Championship for the season-an honour

The result was a foregone conclusion as it was hardly to be expected that the Police team, comprised mainly of Second Divi- 32alon players, would be able to beat the K.C.C. team which included no less than three former Interport players-G.
