SECOND HALF

The first incident of note in the second half was a good, run down the right by Ayres, his parting erose causing Rowlands some an- klety. At the other end Coakley caught the Highlanders defence napping, and dashed through in real "Ted Drake" style to leave hard Thompson helpless with a drive, which glanced in off' the far upright. This reverse added new life to the Seatorths, but Mc- Guigan was the only forward who really caused Rowlands any undue exertion Eventually his aggres siveness, resulted in Seaforths equalising when he dashed be- tween the Welsh backs to head past the surprised Rowlands.

C.B. Fry Talks To Old Rival

For the first time for thirty years Mr. C. B. Fry has had a con- versation with the Hon. Joseph Darling, an old rival cricket cap- talu and now a member of the Legislative Council of Tasmania. It was an extraordinary conver- sation.

Mr. Fry and Mr. Harris were to motoring from Launceston Hobart, and halted at a chalet 3000ft, up above a pleturesque lake.

Mr. Fry strode in majestically and ordered a flagon of hock. But the chalet had no cence and could only oner coffee.

"Better phone Joe Darling about it," Mr. Harris suggested. "I will. replied Mr. Fry.."here and now."

He seized the telephone and pus I trunk call to Mr. Darling, 100 miles away in Hobart.

"WHAT ABOUT IT?" "This is Charles Fry besking. I want to know why there is no licence for the Rainbow Chalet at Tiagarra. Here have travelled 13.000 miles to this delectable spot can't drink to your and now. I health or Tasmania's. What about tt? If you can't do anything 1

WALES PREPARES

One of the features of the final Welsh Trial match was the way in which the players, and especially triumphed the Probables' backs, over the unpleasant conditions, writes a Home correspondent. Irish Rugby Football Trial

The absence of several international players from the Com- bined Universities v. The Rest match gave the Irish selectors an opportunity of trying out some younger players, but in most cases the aspirants did nothing to mggest that they are like- ly to go any farther. The game played at Lansdowne Road was won with the last kick of the match by The Rest by two goals and two tries (16 points) to five teles (15 points).

Of the three cross-Channel players included in the Rest three-quarter line, M. J. Daly, of Old Haberdashers, did best. He showed speed, and, with a' beiter service might have made good. A Darley and J. O'B, Power were both triers in the centre, but the former's defence was made to look almost negligible, and Power, though tackling well, had not sufficient speed.

The best back on the side was G. Cromey, who only came in at the last minute. One liked the man- ner in which he anticipated and went into G. J. Morgan's passes' at full speed and the cleverness with which he changed his tactics. F. G. Morgan was a success on the
