THE GOVERNOR-ELECT Hong Kong's new Governor, Sir Geoffry Alexander Stafford North- cote, who is 68 years of age, has been Governor of British Gulana since 1934. He is a son of the Rev. Canon Hon. Arthur Francis North- cate, fourth son of the 1st Earl of Iddesleigh. He is married, his wife being formerly Miss Edith Juliet Mary Adams There are three sons by the marriage.

Sir Geofry "was educated at Blundell's School and Balliol Col- lege, Oxford, where he secured his B.A. degree with honours and was Newte and Hash Exhibitioner. His Colonial service began in May. 1804, when he

appointed WIR Assistant Collector, East African Protectorate.

He was in charge of Kikuyu Pro- vince in 1911, and acting Provin cial Commissioner from May to unti October, 1919. From then July, 1920, he was acting Assistant Colonial Secretary, became Assis- tant Colonial Secretary in 1921.
