HONG KONG RESIDENTS
MAKE MERRY UNTIL
EARLY HOURS
Brilliant Entertainment At H.K. and Gloucester Hotels
CHURCH SERVICES TO-DAY
Throughout the world, in the home, in tramcars, bases, in the when the clock street, hotels, restaurants, in fact everywhere, chimed, twelve last night, hands joined and the age-old but ever sincere wish "A Merry Christmas” was given and prople whole- heartedly entered into the sparkling spirit of Yuletide re-created by Father Time.
Hong Kong residents made merry until the early hours of
.of... this morning. Words fail to adquately descride the scenes zalety that prevalled throughout the length and breadth of the Island and the mainland but one thing is sure-It was the mad- dext. gayest and merriest Christmas celebration in many years.
The depression was forgotten: taipans and employees, rich and poor mingled as one; everybody had found the right corner to pro- sperity.
Hong Kong was in truly Festive garb. Local hotels once again led the festivities, large gatherings at- tending the various functions, While there were many private parties in addition to family re- unions.
The traditional plim pudding, with brandy ablaze. will be con- enmed in quantity this evening. when the festive reason continues
HONG KONG HOTEL The Hong Kong Hotel offered, a number carnival programme to their hundreds of patrons. The party lasted from 9 p.m. til 3 a.m. and the entertainment provided was easily the beat Hong Kong merrymakers have enjoyed for many seasonsve
In the popular Gripps Norman Brooks band furnished the latest in dance rhythm and in the roof garden the artistes were Bob and Bertie Hellman: Art Carneiro's boya and Eula Holand Bob Burnett. GIANT XMAS
TREE
Hong Kong Hotel Feature
(BY: RJ.M.)
Set in the middle of the Hong Kong Hotel lounge is a huge Christmas tree, hung with glitter- ing decorations and sprinkled with srtifcial anow. It is no diferent from other trees except from its size, but one can not help but feel the spirit of goodwill and perce radiated from this symbol of the Fuletide season.
I spent a few minutes in the Botel lounge to watch its effect on the people who were constantly. coming in and going out and the result was most gratifying to my cwn belief of Santa Claus and the good cheer te brings
A grumpy-looking old man en- tered the lounge scowling Bercely at the two red-coated bell-hops who had swung the doors open for hum and continued to glare at the world in general until he stopped
he let his eyer settle on it and á town of annoyance crossed his features but it did not stay long. I saw the ghost of a smile play around the corners of his mouth, and looking around him, to the first person he saw he nodded pleasantly.
That man went on his way with a child-like expression on his face and I am sure he must have bes-. towed thanks on the Christmas tree for bringing back to him happy memories of childhood days
From there I went around the town but no other tree like it could I find, and the thought, crossed my mind that the Bong. Kong Hotel guests will be found to be a cheerful and happy-go- lucky crowd while that Christmas tree towers its height over them.
There will be no issue of the "Hong Kong Dally Press" to
morrow.
Publication will be resumed on Monday.
